Can’t Stop the Music

BUG

The Weekend Roundup 26th-28th June.

It’s always a feast or a famine here in Luxembourg, and right now is the middle of the feasting period. After the hedonistic scenes of gay abandon that gripped the city last weekend, the highlight of this weekend, RAF, will look like a girl guides picnic by comparison.

Having said that, we’ll begin our recommendations for this weekend with what’s said to be a pretty shocking, but very funny play, currently running at the National Theatre [pictured]. ‘Bug’ is the work of American playwright Tracy Letts, who in 2008 also brought us the Tony and Pulitzer prize winning ‘August: Osage County’. His mother has said of his plays that, “everybody in Tracy’s stories gets naked or dead”, and Bug is no exception. It’s a pitch black comedy dealing with the laugh-a-minute issues of love, paranoia, government conspiracies, and madness. Anne Simon, the young Luxembourgish director, certainly has her work cut out in staging what, by all accounts, is an extremely demanding piece. It’s only on for a few nights, so go see if you can. Oh, and by the way, maybe not one for the kids, ok?

Somewhere where you can happily bring the kids is the Woodstock Galaxie Party on Saturday, if only for the sheer oddness of the event. The day begins at 14h, and the first part, up to about 20h or so, is the best part for the little people. There’ll be a hippy market, Flower Power Motorbikes, vinyl records from the 70’s for sale, massage stands and for the kids, trampolines, rides, street artists, and of course, live music. At 21h there’ll be a full blown concert with Beverly Jo Scott, Axel Bauer (no relation to Jack, and a lot less dangerous), and Paul Personne.

Also on Saturday, and as mentioned yesterday in fact, you’ve got the option to hip-hop down to the Philharmonie for the ‘End of Season Party.’ For more details, check yesterdays article.

WIN TICKETS! WIN TICKETS! Win 2 tickets for the End of Season Party at the Philharmonie. Winners selected at random by 17h today [26th June]. Winner has been selected!

And finally, on Sunday, it’s the big one. If you were lucky enough to get a ticket you surely don’t need any reminding that it’s RAF weekend. If you haven’t managed to get a ticket, keep checking official sources, there was a rumour going around that more tickets would go on sale in the days leading up to the event. Failing that, and if you still want to go, you’re going to have to go out there and throw yourself on the mercy of the touts. Don’t forget to get out there early, ticket or no ticket, the day starts at 11h, and there are lots of local bands to catch early on and throughout the day.

And one final word to the wise, next Friday 3 July, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band play up the road in Frankfurt, and last time I checked tickets were still available, but running out fast.

Bon Weekend
