Ground Control to Major Tom…

SCENE.LUHi everyone and welcome to the launch of Luxembourg’s newest almost fully functioning, shiniest and most comprehensive ‘one stop shop’ website in English.

Our goal, here at SCENE headquarters, is an ambitious one. We aim to provide surfers with the widest, most complete, most up-to-date information service regarding everything from local and international news and weather, to what’s on guides for events taking place in Luxembourg and the greater region, and more besides.

Unlike other sites in English, we want to steer clear of being Anglo-centric. Our hope is that SCENE will be as useful and relevant to visitors no matter if you come from Wigan, Wormeldange, or Warsaw.

Whereas some local websites are nationality specific, ours will be all-embracing. If you live in Luxembourg, and have a grasp of English, our hope is that SCENE will become your natural first choice as a source of information.

We live in the most cosmopolitan little city anywhere in Europe, and SCENE will always try to reflect that.

On SCENE’s homepage you will find:

Local news, updated at least once daily, which we provide in association with RTL

International news, provided in association with the BBC’s almighty RSS services.

Local weather, again in association with the BBC.

Luxembourg traffic reports about where to avoid via Twitter Account [trafficscenelu]

Our calendar will keep you up to date with all current and upcoming events in the world of music and nightlife, art and culture, stage, cinema, sports, mind, body and soul and events for kids. And we will make regular suggestions via Twitter Alerts [scenelu]

We will supplement this with more extended selected previews for events, to help you decide when you might want to part company with your hard earned euros.

Our restaurant review section will be an ongoing affair, offering honest opinions on the great, the good, the bad, the sad and the downright dangerous. We can’t be bribed.

Gradually over the coming weeks and months we will build up an indispensable directory where you can find contact information for everything from art galleries, and dance classes to restaurants and recruitment agencies, so if you can’t find what your looking for right now, get in touch and we’ll include it.

The classifieds section includes all the usual categories should you wish to sell/buy or advertise just about anything, and best of all, it’s FREE!

We’ll have a forum for open discussion about whatever happens to be on your mind, which brings me to the most important element of the website.

You, humble surfer.

We want your submissions, your opinions, your involvement in every aspect of our website. How else can we tailor what we do to best meet your needs?

We want to know about Polish theatre groups, Dutch poetry groups, Swedish pyromaniac get-togethers, Ethiopian cookery clubs, Luxembourgish hang gliders and any and every group who previously only communicated within their own language group, to let us know what you’re up to, so we can tell the wider community.

That’s it, dear reader, that’s our mission statement. We’re nothing, if not ambitious. But with our hard work and your support we aim to make SCENE.LU, ‘THE’ English language website in Luxembourg, for everybody who lives, works or is visiting this truly grand, Duchy.
