On the first Sunday of July every year, the lithe and athletic get themselves, and if they have them, their lithe and athletic children down to the Kirchberg, for what has become something of a fixture in the Luxembourg sporting/cultural calendar.

On the social side there will be a par 3 golf course open to all, face painting for the young or old, and a bouncy castle (sorry this one is only for the kids). The beer buggy will of course be there to revive flagging spirits to those on the course. The Black Stuff bar will be on hand for the more socially inclined side of the game and the non golfers, with champagne for those of more discerning taste.

The only place in Luxembourg that offers skydiving is the Aérodrome de Wiltz-Noertrange just outside Wiltz in the north of the country. They offer tandem skydives with no experience required, or courses for getting your skydiving certificate. Expensive, but an experience you will never forget.

Alf was, in some ways, ahead of his time. Many marathon runners will ‘carbo-load’ in the week leading up to the marathon. He just crammed it all in five minutes before the race started.
